The Dangers of "Nephew" Design
by Robyn Harton
We at Robyn A Harton Creative have done a good
number of website redesigns for people whose nephew or ____________
(insert other family member or friend) originally did their
site that the we gave it the name "Nephew" design.
And over time we've heard similar stories again and again
describing the dangers of "nephew" design.
It usually goes like this. A client has a website
that their "nephew" made. The client's "nephew"
assured them they knew what they were doing, but now they're
stuck with a site that doesn't work for them, and their "nephew"
has taken up nose piercing as a hobby and doesn't have time
to fix their site.
All too many times family members, or even sometimes clients
themselves, discover belatedly that they don't have the time,
energy, or expertise to deal with a web site on a professional
level. The hazard of this is that it can leave you in the
lurch as far as your website goes. You may end up with a site
that doesn't work, one that fries the eyeballs, or one that
is so outdated it's worse than useless.
If you find yourself in this position, don't panic! All is
not lost. Your job is to do your job. Our job is to do graphics
and web design. You and your _____ probably don't have years
to spend learning web design at this point, when you need
your site revamped. Or maybe you just need it set up a new
way, and then you can take it from there to update it. Whatever
the situation is, we're more than happy to work with an existing
site as a starting point, and make recommendations and changes
until the site works for you.
Just let us know where your site is now in your Request
a Free Quote, and what you need it to start doing
for you.
